Amber Mushroom Hair Pin – Blackened Copper

A handcrafted mushroom hair pin made from copper, pewter, stainless steel and natural amber. The two-prong hair fork is crowned with an airy sculptural composition of four mushrooms, flowing stems and small botanical forms.
The mushrooms rise at different heights and have smooth, individually shaped caps without dots. Their varied proportions create the impression of a miniature fungi garden growing upward from the central amber element.
An oval piece of translucent amber forms the warm focal point of the composition. It is surrounded by a textured setting of tiny metal spheres and pointed organic details that hold it securely within the dark metalwork.
Depending on the lighting, background and natural structure of the stone, the amber may appear bright orange, golden honey, cognac brown or a deeper reddish shade.
A delicate spiral, several rounded buds and two elongated seed-like forms complete the botanical crown. Open spaces between the stems preserve the light, expressive character of the design.
The two long metal prongs have gently irregular handmade curves. They slide into the hair to secure a bun, twist or loosely gathered hairstyle while leaving the decorative mushroom composition visible above it.
The deep black finish emphasizes the silhouettes of the mushroom caps, the fine stems and the warm glow of the amber. The result is an unusual forest-inspired accessory that can be worn as functional hair jewelry or as a small sculptural object.
The version shown in the photographs has four smooth mushroom caps without dots, warm amber and a black finish. Raised mushroom dots, another available amber shade, a custom hairpin size or a silver-tone finish may be requested through personalization.
This hair pin is designed as a small wearable botanical object, somewhere between a practical accessory, a natural memory and a personal symbol. Each metal component is shaped and finished by hand in my family workshop on the Baltic coast of Poland.
The design begins with impressions of slender mushrooms, curling forest plants and warm fragments of light found among moss and fallen leaves. I do not reproduce nature literally; I allow these observations to guide the material until a new form appears.
I do not usually begin with a finished sketch. The work grows intuitively during the making process — through the dialogue between hands, materials and feeling.

The metal is covered with black patina, carefully sanded and polished, then treated with an antioxidant finishing solution to help protect the surface and preserve its deep tone.
Amber is a natural material, so differences in transparency, inclusions, internal texture, shape and shade are expected. These variations are part of the character of every finished piece.
Because every mushroom cap, curved stem, amber setting and hairpin prong is shaped and assembled by hand, small differences in the curves, spacing, proportions and finish are natural and make each hair pin individual.
